With support from the Estonian-Latvian programme, the twin city Valga-Valka centre is set up. The main objective is to create a more attractive and human-friendly solution for the common external space on the Estonian – Latvian border, in Valga – wear. As a result of the project, the Valga-Valka residents and the city will have a unique territory that can be used on a daily basis, where various cross-border events such as the Valga border market can be organised.
The project “The development of the Twins city Centre” is an ambitious construction. It is planned to construct a pedestrian bridge with a swing over a frog, a central square with a stage/pass and a children’s playground, a pedestrian trails along the frog, a centre of cultural and sporting activities at the Ramsi watermill, as well as at the Raina/Sõpruse Street stage from Turn the streets of Latgale to the Raja Street in Estonia to a pedestrian street, thus connecting the city centres in the twins.
In order to promote cross-border activity and the unity of the Twin city, the project plans to organise various activities, take part in various marketing activities and create new common channels of information. In addition to physical changes in the city’s outer space, the Valga-Valka development project gives the opportunity to introduce the region’s wider society in Valgasvalka. With the help of various activities and activities, ValgaValka wants to tap local residents and tourists to restore the city’s heart and increase the active use of the territory, as well as to increase demand for different services, which would lead to a good Potential investors and, therefore, to ensure the long-term development of the area.
The planned project budget for the marketing activities is around 60 000 EUR, of which about 51 000, 5 EUR is funded by the Estonian-Latvian programme. To achieve the objectives set, it is necessary to work together with different organisations and companies. One of the first marketing activities is the co-operation agreement signed by Valga Parish Board with the Latvian company LLC “Pear Tree” on the creation of a new joint Valgasvalka website. The website aims to familiarize local residents, tourists and potential investors with the possibilities of a twin city. The website will provide you with information on the various attractions, activities, leisure facilities, dining options, accommodation, etc. The new homepage will be ready in June. In addition to the site, the municipalities of Valga and Valka have Common social media accounts on Facebook: Visit ValgaValka and Instagram: Visit ValgaValka, where information about events in the region will be posted on a daily basis.
