This week the dismantling of 2 buildings within project „Valga-Valka Twin Town Centre Development” started – old market building (Riga street 7A) and former border crossing building (Rigas street 1)
The construction works are performed by Estonian construction company AS TREV-2 Grupp, total contract price 4 915 899,45 EUR (including, for Valka side 2 977 307,60 EUR and for Valga side 1 938 591,85 EUR). The Author’s supervision is performed by the Author of the Building design Jordi Safont-Tria (Spain), total contract price 3 900,00 EUR. The Construction supervision of Valka side is performed by company PS “Akorda & KPR”, total contract price 28 435,00 EUR.
General objective of the project „Valga-Valka Twin Town Centre Development” is to improve and revitalize the cross–border joint urban area on the border of Estonia and Latvia in the centre of Valga–Valka Twin town. There will be made a lot of construction works, for example: it is planned to build a pedestrian bridge with swing on Konnaoja / Varžupīte. Valka Central Square will be established with a stage for conducting events and a children’s playground. There will be built walking ways for pedestrians in next to Konnaoja/ Varžupite creek, which will connect the Valka Central Square to the Pedele recreation area, there will be created pedestrian street to Raina / Sõpruse Street, which will connect the twin town centers. The surroundings of the Ramsi watermill will also be reorganized and new opportunities for leisure will be created, including the skatepark near Ramsi watermill.
The total cost of the Valga-Valka Twin Town Center project is 5 303 109.34 EUR. The budget of the Valga Municipality Government is 2 118 766.33 EUR, of which the support of the Estonia-Latvia programme is 1 488 710.40 EUR. The budget of the Valka Municipality Council is 3 184 343.01 EUR, of which the grant from Estonia-Latvia programme is 1 511 289.19 EUR and the grant from the state budget of Latvia is EUR 88 899.36.
