Today, 31st of May, marks the end of the implementation of activities of the project “Development of Valga – Valka Twin City Center” (No. Est – Lat 51) co-financed by the INTERREG Estonia-Latvia cross-border co-operation programme.
The construction works of the twin Town centre were completed already at the end of 2020. Active works on the implementation of marketing activities planned within the project were carried out in parallel. With the co-financing of the project, a joint website of Valga and Valka has been created https://visitvalgavalka.com, a photo book of Valga – Valka has been published, a border market with 250 traders was organized on 7th and 8th of May this year with a large number of visitors and buyers, and linen folders were made which are planned to be used for presenting the Valga – Valka photo book.
The total cost of the project “Development of Valga-Valka Twin Town Centre” is EUR 5,303,202.66, of which approximately 57% (EUR 2,999,999.98) is financed by the INTERREG Estonia-Latvia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme 2014-2020 (ERDF). The budget of Valka municipality is 3,184,343.01 EUR, of which the funding of the Estonia-Latvia programme is 1,511,289.19 EUR and the state budget grant is 88,899.36 euros. The budget of Valga municipality is EUR 2,118,859.65, of which the support of the Estonia-Latvia programme is EUR 1,488,710.79. The first development project of Valga-Valka Twin Town Centre has been completed, but the improvement works of the central area are continuing – construction works have already started on the project “Renewing and developing Valga-Valka twin town common recreational area” co-financed by Est-Lat181, where the leading partner of the project is Valga municipality, Valka municipality is the project partner.
