Valga Hot Shorts (VHS) is a film festival dedicated to short films. The topics of the films explore the arts of survival and look for meaning in the past to transfer us safely into the future, while embracing the weight of being here and now.
Five themes of the first VHS are connected to the general artistic concept of Tartu 2024, concentrating on ways to survive and hopefully even thrive in a new world, the surrealism of the Anthropocene, the contradictions and compromises we need to have in order to save ourselves from ourselves, as well as looking for new possible routes to save nature and humanity.
In addition, the festival will screen short documentaries specially prepared for Tartu’s 2024 programme, and the premiere of the newly restored Estonian film classic “Daisy Petal Game”, supervised by Tarkovsky himself.
All films are screened with Estonian, English and Russian subtitles.
