On 21st of June the “Track and Field Athletics Competition Valga – Valka – Smiltene” organized in three rounds within the framework of the Estonian-Latvian program project ” Together in sports in Latvia and Estonia” ended with an athletics competition in Valga. The competition was held in 60m running, 300m running, long jump and shot put.
135 youths from Valga, Valka and Smiltene municipalities took part in the competition. All participants of the competition received commemorative medals for participation.
Simultaneously with the athletics competition, a meeting of the project management group was held in Valga on 21st of June between project coordinators Jana Lāce, Siim Kangsepp and assistant coordinators Tonu Vahtra, Inese Kāposte. On the same date the meeting of the project steering committee also took place which was attended by Valdis Šaicāns, Executive Director of Valka Municipality Council, Andris Lapiņš, Executive Director of Smiltene Municipality and Maarja Magi, Deputy Mayor of Valga Municipality. Project manager Gunta Smane informed about implemented parts of the project and discussed the issue of budget utilization and organization of future activities. Participants of the meetings had an opportunity to ask questions to Janika Friedenthal, program consultant of the Joint Secretariat of the Estonia-Latvia program who attended all events taking place on 21st of June in Valga.
Between 23rd and 27th of June 60 youths and their coaches from all project partners Valka – Valga and Smiltene participated in a camp for track and field athletes in Kaariku (Estonia) in which they had an opportunity to gain Estonian-Latvian experience during the training process.
Between 12th and 18th of August a camp for basketball players will be held in Alūksne in which 60 young basketball players from Smiltene, Valka and Valga and their coaches will participate.
All the above-mentioned events are organized by the Estonian-Latvian program project “Together in sports”, No. EE-LV00009″ within. The project is implemented by Valka Municipality as the leading project partner together with the project partners Smiltene and Valga municipalities between 1st of August, 2023 and 30th of November, 2024.
As part of the project, experience exchange visits for coaches and young athletes to Ventspils, coaches to Tartu – Otepi – Pärnu, a floorball tournament in Valka, a competition for track and field athletes in Valka, Valga and Smiltene, camps for football players and track and field athletes in Kaarik (Estonia) have already been organized.
The total budget of the project is EUR 87 500, including ERDF funding of EUR 70 000 or 80%, co-financing of project partners EUR 17 500 or 20%.
