On 17th of August 2019 at 13:00 o’clock in the territory of the old Valka railway station, Poruka Street 4, every resident and visitor of Valka will have the opportunity to learn more about the “Green Railways” project (Nr. Est-Lat24), and all visitors will have the opportunity to ride the railway bikes. Informative materials about the project, Valka station and railway development in the Valka area will be placed on the building of Valka railway station. The information materials will not be removed after installation to partially improve the overall appearance of the existing building, so please act responsibly and avoid maliciously causing damage to these materials!
The Green Railway project is being implemented under the INTERREG Estonia – Latvia Cross Border Cooperation Program 2014 – 2020. The aim of the project is to create a common tourism route through Latvia and Estonia by restoring old narrow-gauge railway lines.
Valka Municipality Council’s budget allocated to the project is 34225,00 EUR, of which 29091,25 EUR (85% of the cost of activities in Valka municipality) is co-financed by the European Union. The project is being implemented from 1st of March 2017 to 30th of April 2019. The lead partner of the project is Vidzeme Tourism Association with a total budget of 1 174 938 EUR of which 85% is co-financed by the European Union.
